Statements of educational need and Education, Health & Care (EHC) plans
If a pupil arrives at the Academy with a statement of special educational needs or EHC plan, we are legally obliged to meet any needs they have. We will also hold annual review meetings to review progress and set appropriate targets and plans going forward.
As of September 2014, any child with a statement will either have their statement transferred to an EHC plan or have it discontinued. The process of transferring to an EHC plan or ceasing the statement will take place by the end of the spring term 2018.
If the decision is made that a statement will cease and not be replaced with an EHC plan, it will be in prior agreement with all parties including the student, their family, the school and any external agencies or professionals involved. In this case, the school will create an SEND support plan in conjunction with the student and their family to set relevant outcomes and make provision appropriate for the child within our own resources. This will involve following the Assess, Do, Review process and setting SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time-bound) outcomes.
